West LegalEdCenter Raises the Bar With CLE Mobile

in CLE Provider, Technology Based CLE

clemobile20Earn those pesky continuing legal education (CLE) credit hours on your iPhone during the commute to work.  Hone your skills or learn new practice areas of law on your iPod during those agonizing hours at the gym.

Yes, CLE just got a lot more convenient and accessible with CLE Mobile, the new mobile application from West LegalEdCenter.

CLE Mobile allows users to listen to more than 2,000 CLE courses. Audio programs available for download to the CLE Mobile app are identified as “Mobile Compatible” on westlegaledcenter.com. After purchasing available content online through a free West LegalEdcenter account, courses become available for download to an iPhone or iPod touch through the CLE Mobile app.

Among the terrific reviews and write-ups are iPhone J.D.,  the ABA Journal, and West LegalEdCenter’s own Gina’s CLE Blog.  So, I’ve decided instead to produce a slide show of the process — from downloading the free application on iTunes to getting a certificate of completion verifying the mandatory CLE credits earned.

To avoid conflict with the format and/or platform and conform to the burdensome maze of CLE rules and regulations, Gina makes a key point:

Several state regulators got an early look at the app as we worked through the development process. Feedback was very positive with all agreeing that the app was a recreation of the West LegalEdcenter site from an accreditation perspective. Because all of the same functionality exists on both, credit for completion on CLE Mobile will mirror credit for completion of on demand programming on West LegalEdcenter.

The bar has been raised.  Will other CLE Providers get on board?

Very well done app and very convenient as well. I can think of a couple of things I would tweak but a terrific 1.0 release.
  • Thanks for comment, Bob! I agree, great app.

I'm surprised more providers haven't created mobile apps. Perhaps a significant drawback is the ridiculous maze of state CLE rules and regulations regarding electronic platforms which, hopefully, West LegalEdCenter has helped ease by soliciting input from regulators during the creative process.
